Alexandra, Acheron & Surrounds

If you're seeking adventure, relaxation or a taste of local culture, Alexandra and the surrounding towns of Acheron,
Molesworth, and Yarck, offer something for everyone.
This region is bursting with untamed wilderness, culinary delights and access to a rich proud history of gold and agriculture.
This historic region salutes yesteryear with its charming National Trust classified buildings, homesteads, and noble grand architecture.

Whether you are a self-proclaimed foodie, muso, art lover, history buff, wine enthusiast or love a craft beer, the town and surrounding region hosts a fantastic program of fun events throughout the year. A stone's throw from Lake Eildon and the Lake Eildon National Park, this area also offers a fascinating insight into the colourful gold rush history.

Acheron Cutting lookout.

Acheron Cutting Lookout is a roadside lookout located on the Maroondah Highway, 7.2 kilometers (six minutes drive) from Alexandra and 11 kilometers from Taggerty (eight minutes drive).

The lookout has now taken its place and has become one of the district's most used scenic lookouts. The view extends over the Goulburn River Valley to the east and beyond up the Thornton Valley towards Eildon.

The view changes with the seasons and is highly photographic all year. Be sure to checkout this place at sunrise for the best views over the countryside.

RAIL TRAIL

The Great Victorian Rail Trail winds through much of this area making Alexandra, Victoria, and surrounding townships a great pitstop for cyclists wishing to explore the large range of welcoming country pubs, great eateries, local art galleries and quirky stores.

From iconic Steavenson Falls at Marysville, to lesser-known Cora Lyn Falls near Cambarville, Wilhelmina Falls or the cascades along Lady Talbot Drive, take a road trip and uncover some of the most beautiful waterfalls in Victoria.

Dozens of spectacular waterfalls are dotted throughout the Murrindindi region, each with a character and timeless beauty of its own. Some are easily accessible via a short stroll while others call for a little more effort to reap the rewards.

Lucky visitors will see lyrebirds at Masons Falls at Kinglake or take in the view from the platform at the impressive single long drop at Snobs Creek Falls on the way to Eildon.
